Summary: Obsessed with his slave Formosus, Roman nobleman Quintus Aelius Aurelius undertakes to have his lover's form immortalised in stone. But unfortunately Formosus is not as cold and unyieldling as his marble image.

Review: I'm generally very opposed to stories in which slaves love their masters, but The Statue does it best as one can. The best part about the story is how knowledgable the author is about the Roman empire. You generally don't expect any story on AFF to educate you on history, but this story did. The characters are well-done, and for once Formosus is a slave who fits the ideals of Roman beauty instead of the usual waifs slave stories are about. The author says the fic was based on the real story of Emperor Hadrian and his Greek lover Antinous, once again adding to the lovely historical flavor.
It also updates a lot, so there's that too.
