Title: Imprint
Author: Hermit in the Cave
Format: Online novel, series
Published/free: Free
Length: 258,505
Status: Complete, with 5 chapters of the sequel, Ripple Effect, released. Currently updating, this is an active story.
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Murder, language, rape&other sexual crimes mentioned/implied, group homes,
A lot of possible references to possible triggers.
Here are the authors warning:

“Okay, two things to know upfront to help you decide if this is something you want to read, or not your cup of tea - I’ll be honest, my work is not for everyone and plenty of people will fall into that latter category.
1. This is going to be long. It’s also not a straight forward sort of story, non linear and a big part of the mystery is what exactly is going on.
2. There will be violence here. I write about troubled characters, not all those characters are nice people, not all of those not-so-nice people are villains either. That last point especially can be a real deal breaker for some, so keep it in mind.
Enjoy smile.png”

triggers: I'm sure that nothing is romanticized since gayauthors does not allow those stories, but the sex is graphic(sometimes rough but consensual) and there are mentions/implications of offscreen rape/noncon...

Summary: (authors summary)
In spilled blood and desperation, their fate was sealed; in a quiet corner of the world, far removed from genocidal wars and marauding “demons,” the stage is being set. Tragic soul mates, a human weapon, an elven exile and a tortured empath are pushed into play. Between ancient mysteries, relentless hunters and scheming gods, the truth runs deeper and they were trapped here long ago…"

Review: Wow. This is one of the the greatest stories I’ve ever read. It is a fantasy that centers on several main characters as they (and we, as the readers) try to figure out what is going on. It starts a little confusing, but I’m begging you to read through. It starts making sense really quickly. It’s even better on the second read through! I resisted making a rec for so long because I felt that surely someone would rec this Imprint any day now, (and do it much better than I am) but it’s been a while and there is no rec, and a story like this deserves more readers!!

I posted this on tumblr about ten days ago but I really have trouble with chronology and tumbler, so I'll post it here. I know I check here way more often than tumblr because of that....(and apparently red dreadful was rec'd so yay)

I've attempted the tags. I did my very best to not spoil anything:

Title: Love Revisited
Author: Marie Brown
Format: Short story
Published/Free: Free
Length: 43 pages
Status: Wip
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Language (the kind one uses when one stubs one’s toe), references to past drug use. Sex occurs, but it is not graphically described.
Link: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/476334
Summary: A year ago, Erik and Shane were on top of the world. Their band had a number one record and they were performing sold-out concerts. They were also doing lots and lots of drugs. Now they have been apart since a fateful event Shane doesn’t even remember. Clean and sober now, they meet again when Shane reaches out to Erik one more time.

Review: Part one of this story is really the most interesting. Watching Erik and Shane warily test the strength of the love they almost destroyed is poignant as hell. The rest of the story reads like the montage of the happy couple just before the Horrible Thing happens (It doesn’t.). This is probably because this is just the intro to a longer piece that takes a turn to fantasy. The author felt that some people who wouldn’t pick up a fantasy story might still be interested in the 1970’s Chicago story. Or maybe she hopes that readers will like these guys enough to pick up the rest of the story when it comes out. She might be right.

Warnings: Nothing more extreme than sex.

Summary: Retired combat medic Craig Standish is looking forward to time in his family home on Long Island while starting his life as a civilian. One morning, on a walk in West Hills County Park, he happens upon the most unlikely of things: a very beautiful, very naked young man who can’t remember who he is or how he ended up under a pile of leaves in the woods. What else can Craig do but take the young man home and try to help him regain his memory?

He never expects that the process requires a cat, lots of coffee, and a mountain of paper - and all too little in the way of clothes.

Review: This is a very, very good story and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy and scifi stuff. There’s a lot of scifi type tech talk that kind of intertwines with magic, and the authors pull it all off beautifully. The story makes good use of a small cast and limited locations to reveal through conversation and actions a complex, detailed world without ever needing to pause to info dump.

Ultimately, though, it’s about the two main characters finding what each of them needs in the other. I loved the two main characters, especially Nithael, a socially awkward, easily distracted genius confused by the world around him. Craig appears at first to be set to play the ‘normal’ guy Nithael is bounced off of, but secrets of his own are revealed as the story progresses.

There were almost no typos or grammar issues and the story was engaging and well structured. This would be a quality read for a published book, but for a free story it’s an especially exceptional treat.

Summary: Three adopted sisters (Erin, Twapa and Mara) and their best friend Ciaran befriend a mysterious stranger named Xe who has no memory of his past. While visiting her cousin’s family estate in eastern Europe, Mara is kidnapped and her family and friends travel through a gateway to a parallel world in search of the missing girl…

Review: I found this one under the transgender tag on Comic Rocket, so I was a little confused when I had passed 100 pages in and it hadn’t come up yet. I was thoroughly hooked by that point, though, and my main worry was that it wouldn’t end up being something I could recommend here. It’s almost 200 pages in now, and the transgender stuff has just started to really get explored. There’s also a couple that’s possibly m/m, possibly not in an uncertain gender identity kind of way.

Mostly, though, this is just a fantastic webcomic with an engaging story and beautiful art. There’s a lot of time spent at the beginning establishing the characters before the fantasy stuff really kicks off. I hadn’t read the summary before I started reading, so I actually assumed it was just a contemporary webcomic for quite a while. The fantasy stuff is really interesting, though, so while I was enjoying it as a contemporary piece I really enjoyed the sudden shift into something very different.

Authors: [livejournal.com profile] scribblestorm and [livejournal.com profile] transient_words
Rating: teen; might shift to mature later.
Format: Novel
Status: WIP
Word-count: 75,200+ so far
Summary:The last thing a taciturn assassin expects to find in the lonely hills of rural Scotland is a coffin in the ruins of a castle, housing a sleeping knight. Nor does he expect that one good deed will throw his life into jeopardy, and that his fate will be intertwined in a seven hundred year-old tale of valor and redemption.
Warnings: violence and strong language

The story thus far: On a job nearly gone awry, Jude Macmillian, assassin for hire, comes upon Liam Blackwood, a young man who not only professes to know Jude (and inexplicably hint at more, but also claims to be a knight from 700 years ago. Unbeknownst to them, a nameless Organization has been operating in the shadows: its leaders believe Liam's awakening is the first sign heralding the coming resurrection of a disgraced King, and the end of the world as we know it.

chapter 12:Home was an apartment thousands of miles away: piles of blankets and the glow of the television, soft carpets and a sleeping bag on the floor. 'Home' was warm and familiar and comforting. This was none of those, and suddenly he couldn't wait to be anywhere else but here.[[ on fictionpress or AO3 ]]

Review: I already posted here once before while this story was in its early stages re: feedback, and while I've joined a very helpful and warm community on FictionPress, we would also like to have more feedback from people who regularly read slash in order to improve. Concrit is more than appreciated. I'm also willing to enter review trades (PM for that <3).

Review: This is a fanfiction AU, i deemed it AU enough it can be read as an original. As the title said, the story revolves around an amnesiac and his next door neighbor, a young, bitter writer. Both are so different from each another, yet they both found happiness within one another.

'You can remember tomorrow. I’ll remember all of our yesterdays, and you can remember all of our tomorrows. It’ll be great.”

Truthfully, the author is so brilliant in wordplay, like out of nowhere you would easily find yourself immersed in the story. What amazed me was how the author managed to describe situations without overusing dialogues between the characters, yet the reader would managed to understand in bask themselves in the story. And the usage of what we do on daily basis...Like who would have thought post-it notes could mean so much?

It might not be the same cup of tea for everyone, but this is my first time rec-ing after so long lurking and i admit I am not good in giving reviews, the only thing i would like to do is to share this story that have a special place in my heart because to me it was a wonderful piece of literature.

Author: C J Joughin
Format: webcomic
Length: long!
Status: wip
Rating: site says M but I haven't seen the evidence yet
Warnings: maybe some violence later on?
Link: City of Cards
Summary: City of Cards is the story of a failed former professional wrestler and his amnesiac ghost hunting partner living in a dystopic corporate run future Reno Nevada.

Confronted with the fact that their lives are not within their own control, they and their friends and family are forced to decide if this society and their places in it are something they can be complacent with. If not, they must decide if the consequences of change are worth it.

Or, as my friend Lena calls it, "magical wrestling dystopian future fashion-forward bromance".

Review: Well, I've read 64 of 141 pages, so I'm sure there will be matter I don't know yet. So far, we have a perfect existential-noir setup: two fellows with devastating backstory and perilous circumstances, attempting to make a life together. There's even a lot of use of Plato's "The Cave" allegory to help set the scene (also, the MC is named Plato, though he doesn't seem much like a Plato to me). Plato has his flaws: he's a gullible gambler and he's abit fast to make deals that could screw himself and/or the person he's dealing with pretty thoroughly. Ace, the amnesiac ghosthunter, is a pragmatic, thoughtful kind of guy, so I figure he'll be a good foil for Plato.

The drawing is kind of sketchy in quality (in the aertistic sense rather than in the moral sense), but the backgrounds are still pretty evocative. I've bookmarked the story and I'll be following it.

Format: Novel (eBook and Paperback)
Length: Approx 70,000 words
Status: Complete.
Rating: Mature (NC-17)
Warnings: Manipulation of a character with amnesia.
Link: http://www.amazon.com/After-The-Fall-ebook/dp/B009W3QEHO Also on Lulu.com as a paperback.

Summary: When Connor wakes up in a hospital bed, he realises that the accident that broke his leg has also wiped his memory. His wife is a stranger, his dead parents just a photograph, and his home an unfamiliar, shabby place that smells of dog.

At a local support group for amnesiacs, Connor meets Nate, a fellow sufferer of retrograde amnesia. Nate has no memory, and no idea how he came to lose it, but he remains easy going, and Connor quickly considers the foulmouthed, chain-smoking Nate a friend.

But, when Nate makes a pass at him, Connor starts to question everything he’s learnt about himself. Is he really a happily married 32 year old, or are secrets being kept from him?

Who is the mysterious ‘Coop’ whose cryptic emails are still in his inbox? And why, on the day of his accident, was he driving with another man in his car? A man whose life, and death, are still a touchy subject at home.

When what you don’t know really can hurt you, who can you trust? A stranger? Or a stranger you’ve lived with for 9 years?

Review : I am the author of this book, and feel it would be wrong, obviously, for me to review it. However, there is a review for it on amazon (link above).

I hope I'm doing this right, I haven't posted here in forever. I've been looking for this story I read a while back and since I have the memory of a goldfish, I can't remember where I read it and can't recall the title. I've searched through my bookmarks but couldn't find it. It might have been recced here, so I'm sorry if this post is redundant. It's just that it's hard to search for something when I don't even know what it is I'm looking for.

Subject:
A young man with amnesia who attends a state college with his best friend tries to move on with his life, unmindful that he was simply retracing his steps back to the place where he was before he lost his memory.

Summary:
The main character had amnesia and his best friend stuck around to remind him of the little things, like them fooling around -- which includes giving each other head and hand jobs. But the MC's best friend claims he's straight, just curious.

The MC had a strange and eccentric female neighbor who keeps on giving hints that the MC used to taunt her or treat her bad but they ended up being friends. All I can remember is that the female neighbor's name is Grace and she loves to get inside the MC's house through the window.

The MC eventually dated Grace's gay brother, Will. And it was when the MC was having sex with Will that he finally got his memory back. It turned out that the MC was with Will in some sort of meet-and-greet when the MC was visiting this college that he wanted to get into before he was attacked. On his way to meet his best friend, someone jumped him from behind and hit him on the head, and had a concussion or something that caused him to have an amnesia.

Other details:
I think this was a long one-shot fic, I'm not sure.

Review: This one hit me hard and left me feeling hopeful about discovering more quality stuff on fictionpress. It's really well-paced and original despite what the author thinks. It's pretty much exactly what I want out of a good m/m oneshot (but this has guts and loads of careful character development so don't be fooled!) and especially one with an amnesia plot. I can't really do it justice save to say it's really hot, pulls on all my favourite character kinks, and is moving where it needs to be without ever getting angsty about the character's condition. And it has a wonderful female character.

Title: Collide
Author: Reibrook
Format: Novel
Length: 23 Chapters +
Status: WIP
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Rape, GRAPHIC violence, slavery
Link: Fictionpress

Summary:  Calis Tsrali is the son of a duke in the Nayian kingdom, where money is a way of life. Spoiled, and arrogant, he's lived the life of a prince. His problems don't span further than having to sit through a lunch with people that bore him. He finds himself rather disinterested in the kingdom around him, though he isn't afraid to indulge in what he wants. But, that's all about to change.

Taeru is a slave, lucky to have a name and mistreated even by people in his own social class. He's small, and kind, which aren't good traits for a slave to have. With a master as lustful as he is cruel, Taeru knows he's lucky to be alive—though he's beginning to question whether or not his life is any better than death. But he's about to be introduced to a different side of the world…

In a kingdom where birth means everything, the collision of these two worlds might be bigger than either of these men know.

Review:  A satisfying read especially if you're a fan of slavefics, a well written story (only the odd typo here and there, great grammar!) that has a bit of substance.  Great characterization with fantastic supporting characters who make you smile.  There are horrifying scenes of torture that occur throughout, most occur during scenes of Taeru remembering or dreaming of the abuse.  Some of the damage/injuries he receives defy's belief especially when sustained over years (like in reality he'd be disfigured or dead 100's of times over) the story is a fantasy and set in an AU so i figured healing was accelerated or something!!  It all works though to show you the strength, resilience and determination of the slave particularly when he has no belief of self.

The only thing that bugged me a little was inconsistencies in the era the world is set..... supposed to be 1800's ish and they travel on horseback yet eat boxes of cereal??  They wear jackets (maybe should have used Coats instead jacket modern word?) and cloaks??

Title: Insect Lord
Author: Kristian Lusasinti
Format: series
Length: 34 chapter (sorry- it's long)
Status: WIP
Rating: (from the author) This is not intended to be read by anyone under 18 years of age.
Warnings: Disturbing imagery, gore, horror, and some very mild boy and boy action so far. It's definitely warped, trust me on this.
Link: Click Here
Summary: (from the author) "Insect Kings" is a gothic fantasy novel with elements of horror and romance sprinkled throughout. Written almost like a children's book, "Insect Kings" takes place in the chaotic world of Dehalen, which is quite far-removed from our own. The story focuses around the misbegotten adventures of a boy named Slayd, who cannot remember ever being a part of Dehalen, despite that everything around him seems to point to the fact that he is inextricably tied to it. He is guided through this perilous Dehalen by his mysterious and eyeless guardian, Guile, who seems to know much more than he should about the inexplicable happenings of the world around them. Is Slayd really the Heir to the savior of this world? Can he avoid the fate that seems to weigh heavily on his shoulders, even though he doesn't even know what it is? And what does Guile have to do with Dehalen's future?

Review: Dehalen is definitely not the human world. It's an alien world filled with strange creatures who are definitely very in touch with their own nature- both good and bad. Seriously, I know you guys probably get sick of hearing this, but it's so damned hard to described without spoiling just how enjoyable Kristian's writing is. I'm so glad I went in not quite understanding WHAT was going on with the story. I actually read everything without reading the summary and loved it! Trust me, you'll enjoy the creep factor so much more if you don't know what quite to expect! As Guile tells Slayed:

What you will see in this world,” Guile whispered, “are the things from which your dreams and nightmares have been born. It is not a ‘what’ or a ‘who’ that is ahead of you, but rather a path, a direction, a fate. Perhaps it is yours to choose; perhaps not.” He breathed softly in Slayd’s ear, and it made him cringe. “You do not come from where you think you come from, Slayd. You are a foreigner in your own slumber, and it is only here that you will find the unpleasant answers to your witless questions. Heed your footing, and look ahead.”

The focus of the story is Slayed and Guile. Two characters who definitely don't fall into the typical "pretty-boy" archetypes that's so common in slash. The story describes Guile:
Guile was grinning at him with teeth sprouting from a wide, leering mouth. His new teeth were very long and sharp, and they would probably have been very shiny if there had been more light. Hideous deep gashes ran across his bald head, deep enough they looked like they cut through his skull and exposed the soft tissue beneath.  I won't spoil what happens, but if you want to see for yourself, check out his art!

Overall, the story feels very much like a waking nightmare, just imaging myself in the same situation is definitely unsettling. The author makes it feel as if you’re reading somewhat of a twisted fairytale. Think Pan's Labyrinth meets Silent Hill meets Brother's Grim. The characters themselves really start to grown on you and while it feels as if the author is still developing them, you still like reading about them.

There are flaws in the story such as the formatting - the author put it in one of those frames, that sorta crushes the writing into one space- but I was able to read it by adjusting my zoom settings. Also, there were a few grammatical errors, but I'll be honest that after a while I sorta stopped noticing them as I became more engaged into the story. I'm sure there are a few more, but as I said before, you forget about everything after the first few chapters. The story is not for everyone, but if anything, just give it a try!

Ehh...sorry if I made this to long! I got a little overexcite

Title:  Memories of Forgotten Love
Author:  Nephylim
Format: Novella
Length: 25,601
Status: WIP
Raitings: M
Warnings: nothing major so far...
Link: Click Here
Summary: Author says:
Noah comes out of a coma and stars to rebuild his life.  He learns to live again, struggling with physical limits and the burden of having no memories whatever before opening his eyes in the hospital.  He is shocked when he's told that everyone believes he tried to kill himself, it just doesn't sound like him.  Struggling to put the pieces together he learns a shocking truth... and with his memories of the terror of the night his life almost ended comes another memory... a memory of a forgotten love that brings him through the dark times and back into the light.
Review: Okay so I've been a long time lurker and have feasted pretty selfishly off of all of your glorious recommendations.  This is a recently posted story and I thought I would try to give back a little.  The good: One of the things I love most about it so far is that it's a story with a plot that unfolds.  Things are shown, not told, and there is actually characterization!!  Nephylim paints scenes with words, so much so it's like you can sense what the characters are feeling.  Even the "flowery" language that on some authors just comes off as cheesy, she crafts it so that it's part of the story.  Every word counts and each chapter leaves you wanting more.  The bad: It's still a WIP and might potentially end in disaster if her other writings are any indication. I don't usually do WIPs, but apparently it's already finished, just waiting to be posted. The ugly: Nope. Nada. Zip. Zilch. This is a beautiful story.

All in all, this story wraps around your mind like a big down blanket on a dark snowy night as you curl up in your favorite chair, sipping hot chocolate and getting cozy by the fire.
