Title: Dragon at the Bar
Author: enblackink
Format: Short Story
Length: 11,661
Status: Complete
Link: Dragon at the Bar
Summary: After years of running from a past he'd rather not remember a young Dragonet has no care for mating seasons or mates, but a chance meeting at a bar may change all that.

Review:
This story rather surprised me. I thought I was going to read something cliche about dragon's mating, but it was a rather quirky but sweet story about dragon's mating. I rather liked the speech pattern in this story. It's not anything too confusing, but for me it felt like a breath of fresh air, something different and interesting that just adds to the charm. The characters were interesting and the little details woven into the story was quite subtle but engaging. Worldbuilding might seem a little off on how the details are revealed and explained, apparently this particular story was an excerpt to a main story that has not actually been written down yet. I don't really mind myself though. I urge everyone to check this story out!
Author has indicated that maybe they might post more so looking forward to it! It's a cute story worth reading. :D

Summary: Captain Wei Shun's offer of marriage to Cheng Lan was humiliatingly rejected in front of all members of the royal court. That was ten years ago. Now, the king has given a newly victorious General Wei Shun a special reward for his military service - a slave named Cheng Lan. Lan was born to be a high ranking scholar-official within the king's court. When accusations of treason destroy his family and he is reduced to slavery, his last hope is a childhood friend who's love he once scorned.

Shun's success and popularity has seen him more than one jealous rival in court. The events that lead to Lan's family's arrest and execution are fast catching up with him. They will need to negotiate the treachery of the royal court together - if they are to survive.

Review:
I love stories in historical settings. It's always refreshing to see one not set in the West (Europe/America) but in the East (China). This story is not very hardcore. It has a Master/Slave set up but no BDSM setting, the romance is pretty sweet. I like the interplay between the characters. You'd assume a character would act a certain way due to past issues but everyone seems pretty mature. I also like the political setting, it's interesting and doesn't go into too much cliche territory.
The first story is complete and the sequel is under way. A nice interesting fic to check out.

Title: Tutti Fruitti Rudi
Author: Stephanie Franklin
Format: Novella
Published/Free: Free
Length: 169 pages
Status: Complete
Rating: Ultra mature
Warnings: Drug use/addiction, child abuse, rape, gay-bashing, prostitution
Link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22852487-tutti-fruitti-rudi
Summary: This story was written for the Goodreads M/M Romance Group’s “Love’s Landscapes” event, in which writers create a story around a picture and a prompt. Rudi is a hustler and pick-pocket with a heart of gold and a baby sister to protect. Jay is a young man that Rudi rescues after Jay is attacked in a park.

Review: Rudi is an interesting and sympathetic character. The entire story is told from Rudi’s perspective, so we don’t get to know Jay as well, but Jay still manages to be more than just the boy our hero gets. The ending, however, does feel tacked on, as if the author was just writing along when she realized “Oh yeah, I’m supposed to be writing to this prompt.” She leaves the main plot hanging to send the boys off to bed. It makes for a great romantic interlude, but not a for a very satisfying ending. There is enough going on in this story to make for an entire novel; a novella just doesn’t do it justice.
