Title: Unrequited
Author: All Good Things
Format: Novel
Length: 93435
Status: Complete
Rating: T
Warnings: None to speak of.
Link: On Fictionpress
Summary: (By the Author) It's tough being a gay guy when the only person you're in love with is straight and the only person in love with you is a girl.
Review: I'll admit, I didn't go into this story with high expectations, it being in the young adult category, and the summary sounding more than a bit cliche. However, I was delighted to find that Unrequited did not live up to my expectations. The characters, every last one of them, were all incredibly well-written and realistic. The main character seems like someone I could run into in one of my lectures, so well characterized he was. Oh, the best friend. I loved her, and she annoyed the hell out of me. I could go on, but this review is getting long enough already... Anyway, The dialogue flowed naturally. The situations were plausible. All in all, everything in this fic could happen in real life.
And if it did play some cliches straight, it more than made up for it in other areas, I think.
I especially liked the ending. No spoilers, but it showed a maturity on the main character's part that you don't see in a lot of fics about college-age characters. And while it wasn't a "fall into your arms and ride off into the sunset" sort of happy ending, it was a happy ending in that same realistic, slice-of-life way that made me love Unrequited as a whole.
